Sure As Shootin’!
Read Hebrews Chapter 11
Heb 11:6 And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to Him must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him.
This is one of those passages that we hear quoted many times in the course of our lifetimes. It has been studied, probed, and explained over and over. Well, it’s a great passage, so it bears looking at multiple times. We can never grasp it so fully that we need never again return to it. First, let’s remember that “believing He exists” is not a problem for anyone reading this. As you know, the difficult part is to truly believe that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him. We want to believe it and we close our eyes and pretend we do. Maybe we try too hard sometimes.
It is a simple truth: God indeed does reward those who earnestly seek Him. Perhaps we need to simply seek Him and let it go, not giving our belief or unbelief any more thought. If we seek Him, we will find Him, period. In order to make its simplicity more understandable, let’s explore something we may have never thought about. Let us look at the opposite idea.
Who does our Lord NOT reward? He does not reward those who do NOT earnestly seek Him. We see many in our world who have no desire or intent to ever seek our Savior, or they seek Him with little intent of following Him. The evidence of such is inescapable. As we see the obvious validity in that line of thought, it is easy to see its truth. If we can believe that God does not reward those who refuse to seek Him, maybe we can more easily understand that we who seek Him will unquestionably WILL BE REWARDED!
Every man and woman reading this has sought God. Every man and woman reading this will in fact be rewarded by our Father. Let us no longer doubt that He hears and answers our inquiries as we seek Him and His truth. Let us no longer doubt simply because we haven’t received an answer in the form and format that we anticipated or hoped for.
There was a time in my quest for God that I mistakenly believed that I had no hope whatsoever. I had cried out to God so many times. I had spent years, literally (in the true meaning of the word), crying out to Him for help and deliverance. As I continued to seek Him, I envisioned Him holding out salvation in front of me like a carrot on a string, which was completely out of reach. I could see our God as taunting me, tormenting me, showing me something that I desperately desired, but not allowing it to be within reach.
I ask you, does that sound anything like the God, Savior, and Lord we see in scriptures? Certainly not!!! It is ridiculous to think that God would offer mankind such a precious gift and then be so cruel as to make it unattainable to those who desired it.
Our Father, without any question, rewards those who seek Him. We now have an easy task before us – to simply know that we who have sought Him are different from those in the world who do not seek Him. Hopefully, this study will help you to sit back and relax, fully aware that sooner or later, His rewards will be ours. And by all means, let us not fail to recognize how many rewards have already been bestowed upon us.
Last thought: Our faith must grow until it is as strong as the OT men referenced in this verse:
Heb 11:39 These were all commended for their faith, yet none of them received what had been promised (in this life).
The promises they received came to pass in the realm of eternity. It may be so for some of us. That’s okay, because our Savior knows best.
Prayer: Oh, Lord, how I languished in unbelief for so many years! Help every man and woman reading this to completely understand and know that God has heard their cries for help and that there is no possibility that His full deliverance is more sure than anything else we count on.
