God Is Not Politically Correct
Read Isaiah Chapter 26
Isa 26:21 See, the LORD is coming out of his dwelling to punish the people of the earth for their sins. The earth will disclose the blood shed upon her; she will conceal her slain no longer.
Torture was a big news media subject near the end of 2014. As we heard all the differing views about it, there seemed to be a big distinction between the two sides of the issue. From my standpoint, it seemed to mold into a division between how the world sees it and how conservatives in the U. S. see it. No matter which viewpoint one takes, we must turn to God and His word before we can even begin to formulate our own opinions.
Let us think for a moment about God and His plans for mankind. There are two sides in His world (the only world which matters). He has a great, glorious, unprecedented, perfect future for all men who choose to believe in Him and follow Christ, His Son, attempting to live a pure and holy life. That future is the ideal – a trouble free and deliriously joyful future. The other side is not a pretty picture. There is coming a day when all men who have not believed in Him and followed Him in obeying Him (at least in heart), will pay a heavy price. Our world today fails to recognize this vitally important truth. Consequently, man has devised his own rules and plans for mankind – one which disbelieves and disavows any possibility of an end time when God will unleash His wrath on all unbelievers.
There is another truth which the world in general fails to recognize. Evil exists. Not only does it exist, it is powered by Satan and his demons. They have exerted their influence on millions of men over the centuries, and much of the evil we see today is the complete embodiment of evil – the very representation of Satan himself, in human form. Much of mankind has allowed itself to be overtaken and fully controlled by Satan and his forces. This is an idea, a truth, which the world refuses to accept.
Because of these facts which we know to be exactly true, Christians must be careful to not think and believe as the world thinks and believes. Our ideas must be in agreement with God and His word, or we will fall to many false ideas. Is torture a good thing? Certainly not! Is it ever acceptable? Before we say no, let us consider the many passages from God’s word which speak of the end times. There is no question whatsoever, that hell is going to be the epitome of torture. It will be like nothing mankind has ever dreamed up. It will be worse than any man can ever imagine. There is nothing man can do to another man that is as bad as or worse than an eternity in hell.
As we consider the existence of evil and eternal torture, we must take it one step further. Evil does not always present itself in a way that is recognizable to the world. Evil can appear to be innocuous, something which is a good thing rather than a bad thing.
Isa 5:20 Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter.
Naturally, the main thing we must consider in this devotional is homosexual behaviors. One cannot read the bible with an open mind and fail to conclude that these are evil behaviors. But our world today has decided that they are not evil at all – they are a good thing, perfectly harmless to those who embrace it.
Why did our Lord command His people to stone anyone who indulged in same-sex acts? Was it because it was a good thing to do? Of course not! We are the most fortunate of all SSA men and women, because we live under a new covenant – one which permits us to repent rather to continue to disobey God. Yet, that opportunity to repent does not set aside the sinfulness of the actions and heart. It only means that we will be forgiven if we repent and at the least strive for purity with a great degree of sincerity. We must remain fully committed to listening to and obeying our Lord. Maybe we consider at times that giving that up is a form of torture. If it is, it is a spa massage in comparison with an eternity without God.
Prayer: Sometimes Your truth is so fully before us, we can fail to see it. When we consider Your ways, sometimes we want to believe something else. Do not let us believe anything which is contrary to Your word. Keep us safe from our enemy and his ideas. Keep us wary of the ways of this world, and stay far from them.
