Day 6: Secrecy Is the Enemy
It’s Day 6 of the Challenge, and today is all about the thing that fuels temptation more than any other: isolation.
In the late 1990s, Dr. Alvin Cooper noticed what he called the “Triple-A Engine” of Internet porn: accessibility, affordability, and anonymity. Thanks to the Internet, porn is easily accessed, very affordable (even free), and offers the cloak of anonymity or secrecy.
Dr. Cooper considered anonymity (secrecy) the most significant of these factors. When the porn user believes he or she is unseen and undetectable, inhibitions are lowered.
For many people, the first step to run from pornography is running from secrecy.
