Day 10: The Science of Craving
It’s Day 10 of the Challenge, and today we continue our look at the impact of porn on the brain.
One of the most common questions we get about overcoming pornography is how to stop the strong craving. There are times when it seems like the craving for pornography can be overwhelming.
There’s actually a neurological reason for this. It is normal to feel a sense of curiosity or desire when it comes to sexual release, but if we have developed a habit of looking at pornography and masturbating, we weaken the area of our brain meant to control these natural impulses.
Read “Neuroscience Speaks: How Using Porn Destroys Your Willpower.” In it you’ll learn about what brain scientists call hypofrontality and the techniques you can use to reverse the problem.
Remember: After reading the article, take some time to write down the most memorable take-aways in your 40 Day Challenge Journal. Make sure to fill out your self-assessment charts for the day as well.
Questions for Reflection:
- How have you been doing avoiding triggers?
- What activities can you do to really “build up your brain”?
