When We Want Water, We Go To The Well
Read Proverbs Chapter 29
Pr 29:18 Where there is no revelation, the people cast off restraint; but blessed is he who keeps the law.
Wow! Isn’t that the absolute truth! God’s word is proven true time and time again every day. Just look at what is happening to our world. Evil abounds everywhere we look.
In our society, God’s word is rarely consulted for any reason. Either mankind doesn’t believe it is God’s word, he doesn’t believe that God exists, he doesn’t like what it says, or he believes he just doesn’t have enough time to read it. Consider the population of the U. S. How many believers are there? Some studies indicate that around 90% of our population believes in God. Lets’ imagine for a moment, and guess, how many of that 90% attend church regularly? How many of those who attend church are true believers? Of those who are true believers, how many of them regularly read and meditate on God’s word?
You can see where our thoughts are going. There really aren’t many people who read their bibles, meditate on its content, and have a fair knowledge of what it says. That’s where real revelation comes from. We can say that any truth we know has been revealed to us by the Holy Spirit. But most of what He has revealed to us has come about as we studied God’s word. Because so very few read and know God’s word, there isn’t a lot of revelation. The Psalmist says that where there is no revelation, the people cast off restraint. That brings us back to the first paragraph.
It is obvious today that only an extremely small number of men and women today impose any restraint on their behaviors. Reading and meditating on God’s word will cause a man to do one of two things. Either he will take heed to God’s word and restrain himself from certain behaviors, or he will choose to withdraw from studying the bible, and continue to act freely as he wishes.
The first option is the only one that will bring rewards. “Blessed is he who keeps the law.” Of course, no one keeps the law with absolute perfection. But, the man who regularly reads God’s word and meditates upon it will strive for the rest of his life to emulate his Savior, Jesus Christ. Only those who stay in touch with revelation will continually look to Him for life’s guidance and instruction. The end result will be the happiness that all men seek, but few find.
Prayer: Lord, give us Holy Spirit revelation as we read and study Your truths. Do not allow us to discontinue seeking revelation through Your word, Your prophesy, Your truth.
