We Are Those Lone Voices Again!
Read Isaiah Chapter 30
Isa 30:9 These are rebellious people, deceitful children, children unwilling to listen to the LORD’S instruction. 10 They say to the seers, “See no more visions!” and to the prophets, “Give us no more visions of what is right! Tell us pleasant things, prophesy illusions. 11 Leave this way, get off this path, and stop confronting us with the Holy One of Israel!”
We live in perilous times. Isaiah also lived in perilous, evil times. History shows us that when a people or a nation enjoys a time of relative peace and tranquility, they become apathetic toward morality, especially in regard to God and His instructions. The Israelite nation is a good history lesson for us. When things were bad, they turned to the Lord for a while but soon forgot the times He rescued them.
Our nation was founded on Christian principles. As my pastor son points out, they were not a perfect people. There were some things the founding fathers did which were not in accordance with God’s will. Nevertheless, the basic moral principles in place in the beginning were founded upon the Ten Commandments and Judeo-Christian ethics.
Our country and the Western world in general today have forgotten God. They want little to do with Him, primarily because they are unwilling to allow anyone, including God, to impose any moral principles or moral codes of conduct on them. The verses for today aptly describe the world in which we now live. A large number of people today are rebellious, deceitful, and unwilling to listen to the Lord’s instructions.
Within our SSA world today, we loudly hear, “Give us no more visions of what is right!” “Tell us pleasant things, prophesy illusions.” “Stop confronting us with the Holy One of Israel!” The result of that has been that much of the “church” has listened to that plea and has obeyed the cry of the world. Many churches, and even former Exodus leaders, no longer give visions of what is right. They tell of pleasant things and prophesy illusions. They no longer confront gay men and women with the Holy One of Israel.
Ps 40:9 I proclaim righteousness in the great assembly; I do not seal my lips, as You know, O LORD. 10 I do not hide Your righteousness in my heart; I speak of Your faithfulness and salvation. I do not conceal Your love and your truth from the great assembly.
Can we state it too much? Can we remind ourselves too often? We must not cave in to the demands of the openly gay voices of today. When we discontinue confronting the world with Godly truth, we have become worthless to the Kingdom of God. Worse, we have become enablers – patting men on the back as they march off into eternity without hope. It is likely that few will listen to what we have to say; nevertheless, we must try. That is more acceptable than becoming an enabler.
Prayer: Father, sometimes we just want to crawl into our shells and give up! There seems to be no one listening – no one interested in hearing Your word and truth. It is hard to stand for something which the world does not like. Give us courage, Lord. Give us strength to carry on, even if we are the only voices which adhere to Your call. Encourage us now and then, by revealing the truth to someone we know.
