They Insulted Who??
Read 2 Chronicles Chapter 32
2Ch 32:16 Sennacherib’s officers spoke further against the LORD God and against His servant Hezekiah. 17 The king also wrote letters insulting the LORD, the God of Israel, and saying this against Him: “Just as the gods of the peoples of the other lands did not rescue their people from my hand, so the God of Hezekiah will not rescue His people from my hand.” 18 Then they called out in Hebrew to the people of Jerusalem who were on the wall, to terrify them and make them afraid in order to capture the city.
We live at a time when mankind does not hesitate to belittle God and His people. We even live at a time when some “Christians” belittle other Christians who insist on believing the simplicity of God’s word. Secular society is, of course, the worst offender. They do not believe in Him, or at the least do not believe God is who we know Him to be. In this passage, the king of Assyria insulted his Creator, our God, thinking Him to be no more powerful than the gods of all the other nations. In the devotion of May 16, I mentioned that a well-known atheist who have publicly said that if our God exists, He is a mass-murderer.
Those who do not believe in God and Christ have a huge surprise awaiting them. There will come a day when they will meet Him face to face. They will not speak and act so arrogantly when that moment arrives. God have mercy on them, and do something which will draw them to You before they die.
A similar surprise also awaits those leaders within the Christian community who have decided that something God called sin is actually NOT a sin. There is at least a small chance that there are some true believers who are currently believing that lie. If so, there will come a time when they see the light and attempt to negate the harm they have done to the gay community. But I fear that most who have proclaimed homosexuality to be not sinful were never believers. I hope that I am wrong on that point.
We who take the words from our bibles at face value, not willing to look for a way out on the subject of homosexuality, are going to take a lot of heat from both groups. We will be demeaned by the unbelieving world and also the “enlightened” Christian world. Just as the king of Assyria attempted to terrify the inhabitants of Jerusalem, we are going to be subjected to shame and derision for the stance we have taken.
We must remember Who we are serving. Our God, the LORD, the God of Israel, is the Author of truth. We must be prepared to stand firm regardless of what kinds of opposition we are going to face. The “walls” of our faith, founded upon the truth from God’s word, will withstand the forces of opposition from God’s enemies. The Lord’s people must, and will, stand tall when all is said and done.
1Co 6:9 Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders 10 nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. 11 And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.
Which of the above listed sins are still widely known to be sinful? Which one is no longer regarded as sinful by some? If one of those sins listed is no longer a sin, why are they not all now legal? What a ridiculous theology, that is okay with picking and choosing which ones are sinful and which ones are not!
Prayer: Lord, our world is going so far away from You! It breaks our hearts. More pointedly, our hearts are despairing over our friends who have believed the lie. We once again pray for them, asking You to speak to their hearts. Lord, we want all of them to join with us in Heaven, where You will reside eternally. Lord, have mercy.
