There Is Still Light In Our World
Read John Chapter 12
Jn 12:35 Then Jesus told them, “You are going to have the light just a little while longer. Walk while you have the light, before darkness overtakes you. The man who walks in the dark does not know where he is going. 36 Put your trust in the light while you have it, so that you may become sons of light.” When He had finished speaking, Jesus left and hid Himself from them. 37 Even after Jesus had done all these miraculous signs in their presence, they still would not believe in Him.
It is alarming to see how many people today are falling away from the truth. People living in first-world countries have had the most exposure to truth than any other time in history. Despite that, most of them are choosing to disbelieve or ignore it. Countries which have little access to bibles are lapping up the truth and eagerly believing, as America, Europe, Asia, and Australia once did. We shouldn’t be surprised. Scripture predicted that in the latter times men will fall away from God.
Jesus warned the Jews that their time of exposure to truth was soon coming to an end. Their best opportunity to believe in Him was now, not later. They had seen and heard of His many miracles for about three years. Yet they had thus far refused to believe who He was. Time was drawing near for Jesus to be crucified and leave them for Heaven. Not too long after His ascension, the gospel was primarily focused on saving the Gentiles instead of the Jews. As we live today, there also may soon be a time when it will be hard to find the truth.
Pr 1:24 But since you rejected Me when I called and no one gave heed when I stretched out My hand, 25 since you ignored all My advice and would not accept My rebuke, 26 I in turn will laugh at your disaster; I will mock when calamity overtakes you— 27 when calamity overtakes you like a storm, when disaster sweeps over you like a whirlwind, when distress and trouble overwhelm you. 28 “Then they will call to Me but I will not answer; they will look for Me but will not find Me.
Most of us already know men and women who have heard the truth about sinfulness, and have dismissed it as folly. Men are seeing evil and calling it good. They have been exposed to light, yet darkness has overtaken them. So many in our times are now walking in darkness, truly not knowing where they are going. The lie has so deeply penetrated the hearts of man that they cannot discern truth.
We still have the light. We still know that homosexuality is a sin. We must be on guard against falling prey to the lies spread by the father of lies. His doctrine is prevalent all over the modern world. If any of us want to believe the lie, our enemy will redouble his efforts to convince us that it is true. All of us must continue to walk in the light no matter how alluring the darkness appears to be. We do not know when the time will come when the light is no longer available to mankind. More pointedly, there may come a time when an individual snuffs out all evidence of light in his life.
There is no one reading this who has succumbed to the darkness. Our enemy may have led them to believe so, but it simply is not true. Everyone reading this devotional is still hungering for truth. Let no one despair, believing that they are too far gone to walk in the light. Only those who don’t care have gone that far. You and I still care – we are still seeking truth and attempting to live in it, seeking to walk in the light, and avoiding darkness. Each of our ventures into that darkness lead us to understand even more clearly that light is our only viable option. We are hanging on the the light.
Prayer: Jesus, this world is growing exceedingly darker. We see Your light and we continue to walk in it, and away from our darkness. Please continue to expose our friends to Your light, so that they may turn away from darkness before it is too late. Give them many more chances to see the harmfulness of living a gay life. And we also continue to thank You for forgiving us for our folly, those excursions into the dark. Thank You for showing us the way out, time and time again. You are much more merciful than we deserve.
