The Unshakable Truth
Read Proverbs Chapter 30
Pr 30:5 “Every word of God is flawless; He is a shield to those who take refuge in Him. 6Do not add to His words, or He will rebuke you and prove you a liar.
Only a few decades ago, it was commonly known that sex before marriage was against God’s word. It was common knowledge that men and women should not live together without the benefit of marriage and that babies should not be born out of wedlock. When a man and a woman fell to temptation and a child was conceived, the couple often married before the baby was born. That was a time when single mothers were a rarity. And let’s not forget that at one time, divorce was rare and was done only when no other course of action was possible. Eventually, the church was cowered into silence with the threat, “If you call these sins to the attention of mankind, you are a hater. Don’t you know that God loves all those people?”
The result of that kind of thinking is that today our world is full of unwed mothers, couples living together unmarried, divorce is at an all-time high, and things that were once considered socially unacceptable are now seen as okay and as common practice. Additionally, people believe God winks at such stuff and looks the other way.
Isa 5:20 Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter.
By now, you know where today’s thoughts are headed. What is happening in our society today? The church is being shamed into silence on the issue of homosexuality. Has the church been too harsh in this regard? There is little doubt. It was forty or fifty years ago, but not today. It has been a long, long time since I personally have heard homosexuality being listed among sins in any church gathering which I attended. We are ‘adding to His words,’ ignoring His words, or at least we are changing them (verse 6). God forbid. “Every word of God is flawless.” The Holy Spirit did not inspire the writers of scripture to warn against practicing homosexuality, only to suddenly change His mind 2,000 years later. God’s word is indeed flawless, and any attempt to water it down or change it will lead to lies and deception.
We see more evidence, rapidly increasing, that the result of this ‘new message’ from false teachers is having a terrible effect upon our world. Men and women are falling away from Christ in ever increasing numbers. A prevailing attitude today is: “If God’s word is wrong on one issue, couldn’t it be wrong on many other issues?” The word of God cannot be diluted to suit those who wish to excuse their behaviors.
Ro 2:7 To those who by persistence in doing good seek glory, honor and immortality, He will give eternal life. 8 But for those who are self-seeking and who reject the truth and follow evil, there will be wrath and anger.
Someday, without question, those who are now giving an approving nod to the gay lifestyle will be ‘rebuked and proven to be liars.’ There are many other scriptures which deliver that same message. Sinless perfection will always be beyond our reach, but there must be at least some desire and effort to achieve that goal. If the Holy Spirit lives within, that will be the case.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, have mercy on us. Bring us back into Your word, write it on our hearts, for it is flawless.
