The Eradication Of Evil
Read Isaiah Chapter 24
Isa 24:5 The earth is defiled by its people; they have disobeyed the laws, violated the statutes and broken the everlasting covenant. 6 Therefore a curse consumes the earth; its people must bear their guilt. Therefore earth’s inhabitants are burned up, and very few are left.
Isa 24:21 In that day the LORD will punish the powers in the heavens above and the kings on the earth below. 22 They will be herded together like prisoners bound in a dungeon; they will be shut up in prison and be punished after many days.
Our world has been beset by all kinds of evil ever since the Fall. Adam’s sin has plagued mankind from that first moment of failure. Our bibles also recount many other ensuing examples where evil has adversely affected the whole of mankind. Recent studies have taken me into the Old Testament, and those studies have made me more aware of how often that happened. One main example is how the Israelites’ disobedience has permanently perpetrated evil in our world. There are many examples in the OT where God’s people were asked to annihilate a people group, utterly destroying every one of them, but failed in that task. Each time they failed to carry out God’s wishes, those people became a thorn in the flesh of the Israelites.
In our modern day word, we see can see for ourselves the result of their disobedience. Our modern day Muslims (not all of them) have become the embodiment of evil. Much of our world today must be ever alert to the dangers of radical terrorism. If we were to attempt to eradicate all traces of this kind of evil, we would find it to be an impossible task. We have tried, and have found that three radical groups replace the one which was targeted. Once evil takes a firm hold on civilization, it is too late to control and erase it.
Why point this out in a SSA devotion? To show us that homosexual behaviors are another type of evil which is growing and spreading at a rapid rate unparalleled in history. In my younger years, it was hard to find anyone who proudly displayed their homosexuality and had no concern over its ultimate ill effect upon their lives. Today, that misguided way of thinking is causing more trouble and deception, and it will likely continue until the end of our world on earth.
Although it will be impossible to completely stop the bleeding, we must do all we can to warn others of the dangers, and to be alert to our own vulnerability to deception. I wonder what Jesus would tell our churches today if He were to speak to the congregations which have embraced homosexuality as acceptable? Based on the OT examples, He would require that all who were openly gay be sentenced to an immediate death. But Christ brought to God’s people a different message, one of grace and forgiveness. But that new message is only applicable to the repentant individual. Therefore, His sermon to the errant church would be much more politically incorrect than modern society might like to think.
All throughout the bible, God firmly expressed that He does not and cannot tolerate willful disobedience to His purpose and plan for mankind. Unrepentant man is under the sentence of death. If he does not turn around before he meets his Maker face to face, he will face consequences far worse than anything we would impose under our own set of man-made rules. I believe that Christ would say something like this to our churches today:
- The unrepentant man and woman must be cast out of your church, including the church leaders who have led you astray in regard to the issue of homosexuality.
- By no means should the repentant homosexual be treated poorly. He or she should be loved and supported as they correctly deal with that issue.
- The repentant person must be lovingly supervised and monitored, as a way of aiding him in his quest for purity.
- If such things are not done, your church will be of no use to the Father’s kingdom. In fact, your church will become an enemy of God.
Of course, this is speculation on my part. But I feel certain that if not totally correct, it is very close. God’s plan from the very beginning was to eliminate all evil from His presence. That plan will be carried out, with or without the cooperation of mankind. We must be among those who agreed with His plan and were willing to be useful in carrying out His wishes.
Prayer: Lord, at times it is more than we can stand. Our hearts ache when we see so much evil around us, and especially when we see it in church congregations claiming to be prophesying in Your name. Give us all the wisdom we need to cope.
