Our Solution For Perilous Times
Reread Revelation Chapter 12
Rev 12:9 The great dragon was hurled down—that ancient serpent called the devil, or Satan, who leads the whole world astray. He was hurled to the earth, and his angels with him.
Rev 12:12 Therefore rejoice, you heavens and you who dwell in them! But woe to the earth and the sea, because the devil has gone down to you! He is filled with fury, because he knows that his time is short.”
A few days ago our topic was on the idea that Satan lives here, in our world. Let’s look at it again, but this time from a little different perspective. These verses confirm what we studied in that former devotional. Satan is in our world attempting to wreak havoc as long as his time allows. Perhaps the question that might be asked is, “What can we do about that?” While the answers are many, Revelation has something specific for us to see.
Rev 13:10 If anyone is to go into captivity, into captivity he will go. If anyone is to be killed with the sword, with the sword he will be killed. This calls for patient endurance and faithfulness on the part of the saints.
Rev 14:12 This calls for patient endurance on the part of the saints who obey God’s commandments and remain faithful to Jesus.
Patience, endurance, and faithfulness – these are not common commodities in our present age. We perhaps are the most impatient generation of all time. We have become accustomed to having what we want and having it right away. We also don’t have a lot of endurance. If we don’t like something, we want to escape it and escape it now. Our world is a world of escapism. When things get tough, we escape. Proof of that can be seen in the proliferation of addictions – alcohol, drugs, pornography, sex, etc. Further proof is found in our electronic games. Many adults and children escape by burying their heads and minds into some computer game. Faithfulness? Where can that be found in today’s environment?
Christians have an information and understanding that most of the world does not have. The evils of this world cannot be escaped. They must be endured, and that can only happen when a man or woman is wrapped up in the arms of God the Father and God the Son. We are completely hopeless and helpless against the wiles of our mortal enemy. There’s no Batman or Superman to come to our rescue. We must develop patient endurance, under the leadership of Christ, in order to survive the evils of our world.
There is a very clear application for the SSA man and woman. We cannot escape the SSA temptations of this world. Our opportunities to fall are at every turn in our lives. In the computer age, a person can connect with a willing accomplice at the click of a mouse. Our movies and TV beg us to view evil as being acceptable. The media beckons us to accept homosexuality as normal and innocent. If we are not loaded up with patience, endurance, and faithfulness, we will fall prey to all of the tools of Satan.
All of us need a closer walk with Jesus. None of us have come to the point where we can produce patience, endurance, and faithfulness on our own. We all need more and more of Christ, every moment of every day. That won’t happen if we are not doing the following:
1. Immersing ourselves in His word.
2. Uniting ourselves with a body of true believers on a regular basis.
3. Being accountable to that body of believers.
4. Talking to God about almost every situation we face each day.
5. Avoiding places and people where the opportunity to fail is prevalent and likely.
This world is evil. That is because Satan lives here and he is full of fury. He wants to sift us like wheat. He is a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. The world must have God, for without Him, the one they follow lead them straight into eternity, with no hope of redemption.
Prayer: Father, continue to give us Your patience, endurance, and faithfulness. Thank You for Your mercy, grace, and forgiveness. You are our only hope.
