One Of The Tribes Of Israel
Read Micah Chapter 5
Mic 5:3 Therefore Israel will be abandoned until the time when she who is in labor gives birth and the rest of his brothers return to join the Israelites. 4 He will stand and shepherd His flock in the strength of the LORD, in the majesty of the name of the LORD his God. And they will live securely, for then His greatness will reach to the ends of the earth. 5 And He will be their peace.
Mic 5:8 The remnant of Jacob will be among the nations, in the midst of many peoples, like a lion among the beasts of the forest, like a young lion among flocks of sheep, which mauls and mangles as it goes, and no one can rescue.
Today, we are going out on a limb. Our topic will be one of speculation, putting forth a theory. Please view it as theory only, and only as a possibility. Some of you know that there are ten “lost tribes of Israel.” The tribe of Judah is still known today, and they are the Jews. The Jewish nation (or people group, if you wish) is a regular item in the news in our world. It seems that the whole world stands united against them, with the exception of those who are true believers in Christ. That part of our discussion is fact rather than theory.
Here’s where we go off the deep end. What happened to the ten missing tribes? Where are they? Do they still exist, hidden among the nations of the world? Verse 8 would seem to suggest that they do exist, and are scattered among the nations of the world. Micah prophesied in verse 3 that the remnant of Jacob will someday be reunited with their brothers, which would be the Jews. So far, that has not happened. That particular prophesy has not yet to come to pass.
We do know that all Christians around the world have been grafted into the nation of Israel.
Ro 11:17 If some of the branches have been broken off, and you, though a wild olive shoot, have been grafted in among the others and now share in the nourishing sap from the olive root,…..
Some of the branches have been broken off, so that you and I can be grafted in. That is an awesome thought! We have become a part of the Israelite nation – not the Jewish nation, but the Israelite nation. Are we then the “remnant of Jacob” that is living among the nations? Are we the brothers who will return to join our brothers, the Jews? I don’t think the idea is all that far-fetched.
For sure, we know that we are brothers to all who belong to Christ. Yes, most of the Jews are not Christians at this time. But there may come a time when that changes.
Ro 11:23 And if they do not persist in unbelief, they will be grafted in, for God is able to graft them in again. 24 After all, if you were cut out of an olive tree that is wild by nature, and contrary to nature were grafted into a cultivated olive tree, how much more readily will these, the natural branches, be grafted into their own olive tree!
Whether this way of thinking is out of line or not, there are many things of which we can be certain. You and I, SSA believers, will someday stand tall in the kingdom of God. We will stand alongside all believers from all nations and people groups. We will be with Jews, all varieties of Gentiles, and be a part of a united Israelite people, God’s chosen ones. We SSA men and women must begin rejoicing over our good fortune. We are like the lions mentioned in verse 8. We will be a part of the victorious few who survive all the evil that engulfs our world today. We will not be like those who perish.
Mic 5:15 “I will take vengeance in anger and wrath upon the nations that have not obeyed Me.”
Prayer: Lord, it is almost too much for us to comprehend – how You can actually number us among Your chosen people. We are so unworthy, so unable to perform any good deed which would give us a measure of worthiness. Thank You again and again for the grace which has been bestowed upon us.
