Modern Day Walls Of Jericho
Read Luke Chapter 19
Lk 19:41 As He approached Jerusalem and saw the city, He wept over it 42 and said, “If you, even you, had only known on this day what would bring you peace—but now it is hidden from your eyes. 43 The days will come upon you when your enemies will build an embankment against you and encircle you and hem you in on every side. 44They will dash you to the ground, you and the children within your walls. They will not leave one stone on another, because you did not recognize the time of God’s coming to you.”
The sad reality is this: there is coming a time when the “walls” behind which man hides are going to come down. The Lord has graciously provided mankind with a way to bridge the gap between Him and fallen man. There is no other way, no other route to eternal life. The way out is freely offered to anyone who will take shelter under the wings of God. Yet, mankind hides behind the walls he has built on his own, believing or hoping that they will provide them with the safety and protection they need. Disappointment awaits them, sooner or later, because there is nothing or anyone other than God who can provide.
The gay world is busy building its walls of protection against the coming disasters. They live behind the walls of:
- There is no God; therefore, there are no rules. There is no authority to whom I must bow. I am autonomous.
- There is a God, but He understands my weakness. He realizes that I cannot live without same-sex satisfaction.
- His word has been misunderstood and mistranslated. God does not prohibit a man or woman from finding true love and companionship, which would include same-sex physical acts.
- There are many church leaders who assure me that I am okay. I can love and marry whomever I wish. The leaders have spoken.
This passage from Luke, repeating the words of Jesus, spells doom for many men and women. First, Jesus wept. God was not happy that the majority of Jerusalem had rejected Him and the truth. He had done all He could do to reveal God’s plan for salvation. His sadness, His love for man, could not override the Father’s plan. His grief was real, and could not be abated. We should have that same sadness and grief for every man and woman who has rejected God’s word concerning homosexuality. It cannot and will not change. There is only one hope – that man repents and turns away from same-sex desires. A man’s heart must believe God’s word and have a heart’s desire to obey Him.
Next, Jesus foretold the disaster which awaits those who refused to believe in Him. The day will come when the safe walls will come tumbling down. The religious leaders of Jesus’ day had not believed the truth. Not only had they built up their walls against truth, they had led the Israelite people astray. All that they believed in and relied upon would someday fail them. The same will happen to all who steadfastly refuse God’s word. The four “walls” we have looked at will not stand the test of time and reality. Again, that is so very sad. If only we could open the eyes of all SSA men and women, we would gladly do so. Jeremiah had a word about this.
Jer 6:14 They dress the wound of my people as though it were not serious. ‘Peace, peace,’ they say, when there is no peace. 12 Are they ashamed of their loathsome conduct? No, they have no shame at all; they do not even know how to blush. So they will fall among the fallen; they will be brought down when they are punished, says the LORD.
The religious leaders of his day had perverted the truth. Consequently, the people falsely believed they were in right-standing with God. They believed they had peace with Him. They were not ashamed of their conduct. They did not know how to blush with shame. Therefore they will be brought down. Their walls will not protect them.
While these thoughts seriously grieve us and cause us to pray more diligently for our friends who have been deceived, we must also make sure that we are not beginning to build some of the same walls our friends have constructed. We always must be diligent to stay true to the truth. Nothing we believe or wish to believe will alter God’s word.
Prayer: God, have mercy on our friends who are deceived. As You weep over their fate, please continue to expose them to truth. Lord, do not abandon them as hopeless.
