God’s Truth Cannot be Reinterpreted
Read Genesis Chapter 3
Ge 3:1 Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the LORD God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’?” 2 The woman said to the serpent, “We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden, 3 but God did say, ‘You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.’ ” 4 “You will not surely die,” the serpent said to the woman. 5 “For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”
God’s word is sacred. He does not lie. What He says can fully be trusted. That is why it is so very important for each of us to spend much time reading and meditating on God’s word. How can we know truth if we are not looking for it in the only trustworthy source which exists? The Serpent was indeed crafty. He knew that mankind could never be led astray unless the mind could be deflected away from God and His truth. Look how easily the Serpent led Eve away from the truth.
DOUBT – “Did God really say?” This question forced Eve to think back and remember what God really said. Remember, the instruction to not eat from the ‘tree of knowledge of good and evil’ was given to Adam, not Eve (as far as we know). She would have heard it from Adam. Nevertheless, her memory was correct from that standpoint. Despite that, a question of doubt was planted in her mind. “Did God really say?”
REJECTION – “You will not surely die.” The Serpent fed that tiny bit of doubt with a seemingly convincing statement. Now Eve was tempted to not only doubt God’s word, she was tempted to reject and contradict it.
Sin gets its foot in the door of our minds with only a small measure of doubt. If allowed to remain, it can easily become full-blown to the point of rejection of truth. Most SSA men and women have at one time known that God’s word is clear on the subject of homosexual behavior. In fact, even mankind who knows nothing of the bible inherently knows that there is something amiss in regard to same-sex behaviors. It does not correlate to the natural and biological use of our bodies. That knowledge remains firm in all societies, until doubt begins to arise.
In the world of SSA, once doubt comes, it rarely dies. In fact, it grows if fed even the slightest morsel. That is why we must continually remind ourselves of the truth of God’s word. We have discussed this before, but it bears repeating. It would be a good idea for each of us to re-read Romans chapter 1 over and over in our bible studies. How often? I don’t know, but maybe each person knows how vulnerable he or she is to allowing truth to fade away from their mind. We must become firmly convinced that God’s word is correct and correctly interpreted. As long as we allow any small doubt to remain in the corner of our minds, the door remains open for that doubt to grow.
Just recently, I have heard a Christian (not SSA) say that God’s word has been misinterpreted. As a result of that belief, he not only approves of homosexual behavior in others, he encourages them in that behavior. By doing so, he becomes complicit in allowing men to believe a lie. God forbid!
This not only applies to homosexuality, but all other sins as well. As we look around us in today’s world, how many have allowed themselves to reject truth in regard to sex outside marriage, living together without being married, overeating, lying, alcohol abuse, etc.? Without being firmly entrenched in the truth of God’s word, there are no limits to man’s errant ways.
Pr 29:18 Where there is no revelation, the people cast off restraint; but blessed is he who keeps the law.
Ps 119:130 The unfolding of Your words gives light; it gives understanding to the simple.
God’s truth cannot be reinterpreted, ignored, doubted, denied, or rejected. Mankind doesn’t have the infinite knowledge and wisdom necessary to make decisions related to eternity or truth. We are not God; therefore we must rely on a Power with greater knowledge and wisdom than our own.
Prayer: Father, please do not allow even one more man or woman to allow doubt to grow into contradiction and rejection. It is too heartbreaking for us to bear, as we see others walking away from Your truth. God, have mercy!
