Even In Darkness…………….
Read Psalm Chapter 112
Ps 112:1 Praise the LORD. Blessed is the man who fears the LORD, who finds great delight in His commands. 2 His children will be mighty in the land; the generation of the upright will be blessed. 3 Wealth and riches are in his house, and his righteousness endures forever. 4 Even in darkness light dawns for the upright, for the gracious and compassionate and righteous man. 5 Good will come to him who is generous and lends freely, who conducts his affairs with justice. 6 Surely he will never be shaken; a righteous man will be remembered forever. 7 He will have no fear of bad news; his heart is steadfast, trusting in the LORD. 8 His heart is secure, he will have no fear; in the end he will look in triumph on his foes. 9 He has scattered abroad his gifts to the poor, his righteousness endures forever; his horn will be lifted high in honor. 10 The wicked man will see and be vexed, he will gnash his teeth and waste away; the longings of the wicked will come to nothing.
This entire chapter is a comparison with those who follow the Lord and those who refuse to do so. We have had other devotions devoted to this idea, but we can’t have too many of them. The SSA Christian must continually remind himself that there is a huge distinction between the two. God give us a sure promise that we will not regret leaving our gay lifestyle behind us – or, for some of you, deciding to never enter that world. Today we will only highlight the benefits of listening to and heeding the truth from God’s word.
Happy is the man who fears the LORD – We who respect and revere the Lord (as mentioned yesterday), are the only people of the world who have reason to be happy, because we cling to the promises of God.
His children will be mighty in the land – At this time in history, it doesn’t appear that Christians are mighty in the land. But there will come a time when that will be the case. Remember, God’s people win in the end. It’s a sure thing.
Even in darkness, light dawns for the upright – SSA men and women who wage war against the flesh know what darkness really is. We’ve lived it, seen it, tasted it, and at times floundered in it. But we have also seen the light. There is a dawn, even if it is only a tiny glimmer in the distance. Light will continue to dawn upon us as we travel toward the light of our Savior.
He will have no fear of bad news – I know, we often swim in the wake of our fears. We dread bad news at times. But bad news will turn into good news, just as our darkness is turning into the brightest light which exists.
He will never be shaken – We may feel shaken right now, but that shaking will not cause us to fail. Remember, in the parable of two men who built homes, one on the sand and the other on a rock, the storms raged against both homes. But the one built on God’s truth and word withstood the storm. Our home will withstand the storms, and will not falter.
His heart is steadfast, trusting in the LORD – Sure, we waver at times, we stumble and fall occasionally. But we pull ourselves up and get back upon God’s pathway for our lives. Our perseverance and God’s faithfulness will carry us all the way to the end.
His horn (strength) will be lifted high in honor – At the end of every race, the winner lifts his banner of victory proudly and high. The final honor will be given to everyone who trusted in the LORD and continued in pilgrimage to the Promised Land. According to scriptures, the wicked will see us victorious at the finish line of life. Even verse 10 in this passage relates that idea.
My dear friends, we have every reason possible to continue to stay by our Lord’s side. All of our trials and tribulations will fade away into oblivion, little by little, as we near and cross the finish line of life. Stay on course.
Prayer: Oh Lord, Your promises keep us going. Your faithfulness is just as sure as You are holy. Continue to strengthen and encourage us. Your righteousness is our righteousness, for which we thank You for all eternity.
